Man Wanted For Shooting At Officer After Two-Vehicle Long Island Crash

A man took several shots with a handgun at a police officer on Long Island after being involved in a two-vehicle crash and attempting to flee on foot, investigators said.

A woman was driving a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder in Middle Island west on Middle Country Road when a 2020 Volvo traveling south on Wellington Road struck the passenger side of her vehicle at approximately 8:20 p.m on Monday, Dec. 23, police said.

A Suffolk County Police officer responded to the scene, at which point, the driver of the Volvo, an adult man fled on foot, leading to a chase.

According to police, the suspect fired a handgun multiple times at the officer, missing his intended target. The officer returned fire and pursued the man unsuccessfully, who remains at large.

Police said that the driver of the Nissan and a female passenger were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries they suffered in the crash.
